Hunter Renfrow, a Socastee High School graduate turned Oakland Raiders wide receiver, was honored by his alma mater Monday night with a statue to commemorate his years as the Brave’s quarterback on that football field.
The trick was keeping it all a secret.
Renfrow planned to stop by his old stomping grounds to sign autographs, where hundreds of fans surrounded the football field in waiting.
But first, he was led a grassy area by the stadium entrance, where the giant slab of granite wrapped tightly in burlap was unveiled.
With his wife and parents by his side, Renfrow graciously thanked everyone and posed for pictures.
When the former quarterback took the field, the crowd roared with applause.
It was just like old times.
Renfrow graduated from Socastee and went on to play for Clemson.
He will play his first professional football game this fall.
