International Drive will be closed Monday for a controlled burn to reduce flammable fuels that could spark a forest fire, the state Natural Resources Department said in a statement.

The March 18th closure at both entrances along S.C. 90 and at Ocean Bay Elementary School will begin after 8 a.m.

The closure will be enforced by police, and reopened Monday night. No exact time for the reopening was announced.

Access to the Horry County Solid Waste Recycling Facility will remain open at the S.C. Highway 90 entrance.

The scheduled burn is subject to change, based on the most current weather forecast.

Please plan your travel accordingly. Alternate routes include U.S. 501 and S.C. 22.
